Parents and spectators have a great influence on children’s enjoyment and success in football. All children play because they first and foremost love the game – it’s fun.
It is important to remember that however good a child becomes at football within KM it is especially important to reinforce the fact that positive encouragement will contribute to: Children enjoying football
A sense of personal achievement
Self-esteem
Assist to improve the child’s skill and techniques.
A parent’s/spectator’s expectations and attitudes have a significant bearing on a child’s attitude towards: Other players
Officials
Managers
Spectators
KM request that all parent’s/spectator’s are always positive and encouraging towards all the children not just their own.
KM would ask that all parent’s/spectator’s complete the section on the membership form to confirm that they will adhere to the following expectations
Applaud the opposition as well as your own team
Avoid coaching the children during the game
Not to shout or scream and never to use inappropriate language
Respect the referee’s decisions
Give attention to each of the children involved, not just the most talented
Give encouragement to everyone to participate in football
Stand at least a metre back from the sideline to give officials space
Encourage their child/children to abide by the Code of Conduct for Players
Ensure that regardless of the result the children are praised for their performances and attitudes during the game
Never to become involved in disagreements with opposition supporters
Concerns about the treatment of individual children should be taken up with the person responsible in a polite and orderly manner after the conclusion of the game or training session, out of earshot of the children and other spectators.
Parents worries or concerns over treatment of their children can also be conveyed to the club chairman at any time.
